Commisso: 'Too much red tape'

Rocco Commisso warns ‘too much bureaucracy’ is holding up Serie A’s return and that ‘it’s not easy for Fiorentina to buy’ Lucas Paqueta and Andrea Belotti.

The FIGC announced this evening Italian football had been suspended until June 14, despite Serie A declaring last week it had hoped to resume fixtures the day before.

“There’s too much bureaucracy with regards to the resumption of the season,” Commisso told Sport Mediaset.

“Health comes first, but we’re looking for a point of understanding to start again. In the US there isn’t a Minister for Sport. I hope a decision will be made, which allows us to play again.

“I also don’t think it’s fair to quarantine an entire team if a player tests positive. This isn’t the case in Germany.”

The Fiorentina owner was then asked about Federico Chiesa’s future, as well as reports linking his club with deals for the Milan midfielder and Torino striker.

“We’ll talk about Chiesa again in 30-40 days. As for Paqueta and Belotti, we turn over less than €100m so it’s not easy for us to buy big names.

“We must increase our revenues, which is why we need a new stadium. I hope I’ll be allowed to do that. Until now, we haven’t decided on anything with regards to acquisitions.”

Red tape is also preventing the Viola from starting work on a new stadium…

“Work on the training complex will be delayed for a couple of months. The objective is to finish it by 2021.

“As for the stadium, it was going fast, fast, fast. Now it’s going slow, slow, slow. I ask [authorities] to let me do it because what I build will stay there and I won’t take it with me.”
