Gervinho bagged a brace as Parma got their Coppa Italia off to a great start, beating Venezia 3-1 at the Stadio Tardini.
The result sends them through to the Fourth Round, where they will face Frosinone or Monopoli.
Gervinho started the 2019-20 campaign as he ended the last, on target and running defenders ragged, as within nine minutes he had drilled in the opener.
The Ivorian veteran had several more chances before Simone Iacoponi rose to nod in a corner kick.
Serie B outfit Venezia pulled one back when Mattia Aramu converted a penalty, awarded following a handling offence.
Antonino Barillà came sliding in a moment too late to score from Roberto Inglese’s cross-shot, but Gervinho doubled his tally with a trademark solo run and precise angled drive.
It could’ve been 4-1 as Yann Karamoh was brought down in stoppages, but Luca Lezzerini parried Inglese’s penalty.
