Diawara: Lucky to be at Roma

Amadou Diawara says ‘being a Roma player means being lucky’ and that it is an ‘honour’ to play under Paulo Fonseca.

Diawara is already training with the Giallorossi, despite only just getting back from the Africa Cup of Nations, and the former Napoli midfielder is ready to make an instant impact.

“For me, being a Roma player means being lucky,” he told Roma TV.

“I gave up a bit of my holidays before I came here. I couldn’t wait to meet the Coach and my new teammates.

“I talked to the Coach over the phone before my arrival. I can’t wait to work with him. It’s an honour to be at his disposal.

“Two years ago, I played against his Shakhtar team who were very strong, and I hope that can be repeated here in Rome.

“They made it difficult for us in the first leg, but we were better prepared for the second. My idol is Yaya Toure.

“He inspires me, but it’s not easy. I’m young and I have to work hard to reach his level. I got so excited when I played at the Olimpico for the first season.

“It was my first time at a full and important stadium. It really fired me up. I promise to give 100 percent in training and help the team during matches.”
