Inter general manager Beppe Marotta has confirmed that Luciano Spalletti will see the season out. “The Coach has nothing to do with our problems.”

Spalletti finds himself under increasing pressure after Inter were eliminated from the Europa League on Thursday, and there were reports that the Coach could lose his job if Milan won Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina.

However, Marotta told Calciomercato.com: “The Coach has nothing to do with [our problems].

“Problems arise objectively, regardless of who the Coach is. Spalletti is doing his job in the best way possible. We must reach this important objective with him.”

The former Juventus executive then discussed reserve teams, the Nerazzurri’s progress and Mauro Icardi, who remains out of contention.

“Reserve teams are a requirement for our entire football movement,” he explained.

“I think it’s necessary to get as many clubs involved as possible. We’re very bitter about our elimination from the Europa League. It hurts us.

“We’re not looking for excuses, but we had nine players missing, not just Icardi. We must learn from this defeat and look to the future.

“The future is the match against Milan. We need to bring out even more pride and sense of belonging, both of which are crucial elements for achieving any important objective.

“The game, despite how important it is, won’t be decisive. It’ll give us the opportunity to show the qualities we have within us.

“I consider Inter to be in a phase of corporate growth. The objective for this season can only be fourth place.

“It’s not easy to accomplish because we’re competing with some top sides, but we absolutely have what it takes.

“There’s no news with Icardi this is already on record. I don’t have anything else to add, but I’m always optimistic because I always think common sense prevails, so I think we’ll end finding satisfaction.”
