Inzaghi: 'Clear heads win derbies'

Simone Inzaghi knows the Derby della Capitale pressure more than anyone and urged Lazio to “keep a clear head” under pressure with Roma.

It kicks off on Sunday at 17.00 GMT,click here for the match preview.

“We know what the derby represents for us and the fans,” said Inzaghi in his press conference.

“I experienced this fixture as a player and a coach. We’ve got to be on our toes and realise the game can change at any moment. It’s a match separate from the rest of the season and there are no favourites.

“We’ve won 11 Serie A games in a row, but are still disappointed and angry going in because of what happened in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday. We went out by losing a game to Napoli that we did not deserve to lose.

“We talked it over and will learn lessons from that, but are angry to have left a competition we really cared about.”

This is more than a local rivalry this time, as Lazio are in third place and Roma in fourth, but a win would open up the gap to 10 points.

“It would be three very important points, but there are 19 Finals from here to the end of the season. We won’t settle for a draw, because the derby must always be played to win. Roma are doing very well and Paulo Fonseca has been able to maintain a competitive squad despite the many injuries.

“We have no fear of anyone, but only respect for Roma. Lazio are a more confident team than we were back on August 30, too.”

Lazio had some issues lately, but Luis Alberto and Joaquin Correa are ready to start.

“I have the line-up in mind. Correa is doing better, although Felipe Caicedo ensured he was not missed. Marco Parolo was one of the best against Napoli, I have a few options in defence. I’ll try to make the best decisions.

“What I ask of my players is to keep a clear head, because this game brings a lot of pressure. I hope first and foremost that we see a festival of football, with a packed stadium and the entertainment on the field to match that show in the stands.

“Both teams have grown since the last time we faced off and we must be ready for anything. I’ve been here for 21 years, as player, youth team coach and coach, with about 50 derbies under my belt in all those competitions. It’s a game that is to be lived intensely.”
