Inzaghi: 'Immobile underestimated'

Simone Inzaghi has no doubts Milan will be a strong test for Lazio at San Siro, but feels “not enough people talk about Ciro Immobile.”

It kicks off on Sunday at 19.45 GMT,click here for a match preview.

“We are up against a strong side, who finished fifth last season,” noted Inzaghi in his press conference.

“They sold Patrick Cutrone, but brought in five quality players, putting together a better squad than the one that finished within a point of the Champions League places last term.

“It’s true Milan have dropped a few points, but they put in a good performance on Thursday to beat SPAL. We need a lot of character to have our say at San Siro, that will be absolutely necessary.

“We broke the taboo by winning here in the Coppa Italia semi-final last season and now hope to get our first Serie A result here since 1989.

“I certainly do not trust talk of the Rossoneri in a crisis. I have great respect for Stefano Pioli, as we worked together when he was Lazio coach and I was in charge of the youth team. He brings a lot of organisation to his teams.”

Inzaghi was meant to only be a temporary solution when he replaced Pioli for the end of the 2015-16 campaign, but did so well that he was given the job.

The Biancocelesti crushed Torino 4-0 midweek with a brace from Immobile, who became only the second man after Giuseppe Meazza in the 1930s to score at least 12 goals in the opening 10 Serie A games in two different seasons.

“I think Immobile is receiving excellent support from the rest of the team. I had asked before Toro to see goals from other players, so Francesco Acerbi and Luis Alberto stepped up.

“I don’t believe enough people talk about Ciro, because he’s beaten all sorts of records and can do even more. He really feels Lazio is his home now.”
