Lazio: Two Celtic fans stabbed

Two Celtic fans have been sent to hospital with stab wounds after they were attacked by Lazio ultras last night.

ANSA reports the supporters, aged 35 and 52 respectively, were ambushed at an Irish pub in Rome and later treated at the Policlinico Umberto I.

According to eyewitness Kevin McGuire on Twitter, the Celtic fans were “at the back of the bar minding our own business.”

It is estimated around 9,000 supporters of the Scottish club have flocked to the Italian capital for the Europa League clash with Lazio this evening.

The Aquile have long had a problem with ultras –and you can read about it here.

Celtic can confirm that 2 fans have been injured after being stabbed last night. Both are now in hospital and will receive every support from the Club and the British consulate in Rome. Again we would strongly advise supporters to closely follow all guidance issued by the Club.
