Marsch: 'Napoli better this time'

RB Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch maintains Napoli “played much better” tonight than when winning 3-2 in Austria, but Champions League qualification is still open.

Erling Haaland had converted an early penalty, his 23rdgoal in only 17 competitive games this season, but Hirving Lozano’s solo effortsealed a 1-1 draw.

A home win at the Stadio San Paolo would’ve mathematically sent Napoli through to the Round of 16, but this result keeps it open.

“The first half was very difficult, as it was complicated to penetrate their defence,” said Marsch in his press conference.

“It’s always tough when dealing with a side like Napoli, who have so many top players. This is a very important point for us.

“Napoli played much better than in the first game, as perhaps we needed the saves of our goalkeeper more in Salzburg, whereas we were a little fortunate this evening. It remains a very important point.

“We had come here looking for the victory, but we consider ourselves still alive and kicking in the race for qualification. Obviously, three points would’ve been better, but we still believe in our chances.

“Napoli have a formidable defence and it wasn’t our best performance, but I am satisfied with the work done by the team.”
