Bologna boss Sinisa Mihajlovic declared Erick Pulgar was a better penalty taker than him after his brace from the spot against Chievo on Monday.
Mihajovic was a set-piece specialist as a player, but Pulgar scored his fourth and fifth penalties of the season during Bologna’s 3-0 victory over Chievo, which moved them two points closer to safety in Serie A.
“I didn’t like the first half, we weren’t very clear-headed: we were just thinking about going forward. We wanted to solve the game in 15 minutes,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“In the second half we went out with another head, with patience. It’s a deserved victory, against a Chievo side who had created a lot in their last few games.
“They were all behind the ball, so it wasn’t easy for us: more pace was needed when we were going forward.
“We broke the deadlock and everything went for us after that. Now let’s think about one game at a time.
“Even against the best teams, we have to take to the field to win. I prefer to lose a few more but also win a few more.
“It’s never easy to take penalties, but Pulgar has taken five out of five in the last five games.
“It’s also thanks to the team, who are letting many players get into the penalty area. I missed more penalties than free kicks, so he certainly takes them better than me!”
