Official: Iachini new Fiorentina boss

Fiorentina have officially named former Sassuolo and Sampdoria boss Beppe Iachini as their new coach.

Iachini takes over from Vincenzo Montella, who was sacked following Fiorentina’s 4-1 defeat to Roma on Friday night.

“I would like to thank Vincenzo Montella for the commitment and professionalism he showed during his time at the club,” owner Rocco Commisso told the club’s official website.

“Unfortunately, our current league position forced us to make a change.

“We chose Iachini because he is a great person and has strong ties with Florence and Fiorentina. Now we all need to work together to get back on track as quickly as possible.”

The 55-year-old, who will be unveiled on December 28, is vastly experienced, having won four promotions to Serie A with Chievo, Brescia, Samp and Palermo.

He also helped Sassuolo stay up during the 2017-18 campaign but was sacked by Empoli in March after only four months in charge.

A midfielder who represented Italy at the 1988 Olympic Games, Iachini played 126 times for the Viola from 1989 to 1994.

The Tuscans have not disclosed the length of his contract, although he seems to have signed on for the rest of the season.
