Dybala calls for action against racism

Juventus forward Paulo Dybala has warned the Federcalcio that players will take ‘measures into our own hands’ if no action will be taken against racism in Italian stadiums.

The Argentine ace gave an in-depth interview with CNN ahead of the resumption behind closed doors and recalled the ugly scenes when former teammate Moise Kean was targeted by racial abuse during an away game against Cagliari.

He also pointed to similar incidents with Miralem Pjanic and Brescia forward Mario Balotelli.

“It really wasn’t easy for him,” Dybala told CNN. “I have experienced various situations of racism with other Juventus teammates in other stadiums.

“Many Italian stadiums have certain racism against some players. It has also happened to Mario Balotelli, it has also happened to [Miralem] Pjanic in a match against Brescia and I think that Italian punishments should be tougher.

“If not, then it will be us players who will have to take measures into our own hands so that this doesn’t continue to happen, because we are talking about one of the biggest championships in the world, where millions of people are watching and if they see that there is racism and no action is taken, people get emboldened and continue doing it.”

La Joya has warned the footballing authorities that the players will have to ‘take action’ if nothing is done by the federations.

“People who have to take action need to take it, or surely in a short time it will be players who will directly take action.

“As happened many times in the past, many players are deciding to leave the pitch or not play and it seems to me a perfect decision because it is something that should not happen in a country.

“If society, in this case the Italian Federation, does not decide to do anything, the players should be the ones to act. Or, as the referees have done many times in the past, stop the match so that these people don’t continue committing that crime.”

Report: Dybala until 2025

Juventus will reportedly extend Paulo Dybala’s contract until June 2025 as soon as his agent can travel to Italy.

The Argentine forward has seemed set to sign a new deal at the Allianz Stadium and La Gazzetta dello Sport claims he is only formalities away from penning the extension.

Dybala’s agent has not been able to travel to Turin during the current crisis, but the newspaper reports that the talks will start when it’s possible for him to arrive in Italy.

The 26-year-old will be offered a bumper new deal where his current salary of €7.5m a year will allegedly be increased, whilst a couple of lucrative bonuses should be added to the terms.

The Argentina international has contributed seven goals and nine assists in his 24 Serie A appearances this term, plus five goals and three assists across the Coppa Italia and the Champions League.

Paulo Dybala has returned to Juventus for medical tests after finally recovering from coronavirus.

Dybala had been suffering from COVID-19 since March, but a double swab test earlier this week came back negative.

He appeared at J Medical on Friday afternoon for a routine medical lasting a couple of hours and could be allowed to train alone at Continassa tomorrow.

Corriere dello Sport quoted the Argentina forward as telling Juve fans on his way out of the facility: “I’m fine.”

The 26-year-old scored 13 goals and provided 12 assists for the Bianconeri before the season stopped.

Juventus: Dybala has recovered

Juventus have confirmed that Paulo Dybala has fully recovered from COVID-19 and his latest tests proved negative, so he can return to training.

The Argentina international was the third Juve player to test positive for coronavirus in March, after Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi.

However, whileRugani and Matuidi were given the all-clear on April 15, it took Dybala longer to fully shake the virus off.

Juve released a statement this evening confirming that Dybala had undergone the double swab test and both came back negative.

He is therefore fully healed and can leave self-isolation after 45 days, returning to training soon.

“My face says it all, I’m finally cured from COVID-19!” wrote La Joya on Instagram with a big grin on his face, standing outside in the sunshine.

Both Dybala and his girlfriend Oriana tested positive on March 21 and had been self-isolating together.
