Leroy Sane: Man City winger wants to leave, says Pep Guardiola

‘He wanted another adventure’ – Guardiola on Sane

Leroy Sane wants to leave Manchester City, says manager Pep Guardiola.

City have been trying to persuade the 24-year-old Germany winger to sign an extension to his contract, which expires in 2021.

But Sane, who has been linked with Bayern Munich for the past 12 months, has rejected several offers.

“He wants to join another club,” said Guardiola. “I don’t know if he will leave this summer or next summer when his contract expires.”

Sane joined City from Schalke for £37m on a five-year deal in 2016.

He has not played for the club since suffering cruciate ligament damage during the Community Shield in August.

Guardiola said City had spoken to Sane “two or three times” about a new deal, and added: “When we make an offer to a player it’s because we want him.

“He has special quality. We want players who want to play with the club to achieve targets.

“He is a nice guy and I love him so much. I have nothing against – but he wants another adventure.”

Ryan Fraser: Bournemouth winger declines short-term deal as quartet re-sign

Ryan Fraser has scored 20 goals in 183 league appearances for Bournemouth

Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser has declined to sign a short-term contract extension until the end of the season.

Fraser, 26, is set to leave the club when his current deal ends on 30 June.

The Scotland international remains eligible for the Cherries’ next two games but his contract expires before the final seven games of the season.

Club captain Simon Francis, midfielder Andrew Surman, full-back Charlie Daniels and back-up keeper Artur Boruc have all agreed short-term extensions.

The quartet, whose deals were also due to expire at the end of June, are now under contract for the rest of the delayed 2019-20 season.

Fraser, who joined Bournemouth from Aberdeen in 2013, has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Tottenham, among others, when the transfer window opens.

The Cherries had offered him a new “long-term” contract more than a year ago.

The Premier League season will restart on Wednesday after a 100-day suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Eddie Howe’s side – 18th in the table – resume their campaign on Saturday at home to Crystal Palace in what will be the first Premier League game broadcast live on BBC television.

Liverpool winger Taiwo Awoniyi taken to hospital playing for Mainz against Augsburg

Taiwo Awoniyi receives treatment before being carried off on a stretcher

Liverpool winger Taiwo Awoniyi was taken to hospital after suffering a concussion playing for German club Mainz, where he is on loan.

Awoniyi, 22, was hurt after a clash of heads with Augsburg defender Felix Uduokhai in the first half.

The former Nigeria youth international landed awkwardly and, after a delay, was carried off on a stretcher with his neck in a brace.

Mainz said Awoniyi was responsive and will spend the night in hospital.

Awoniyi, who has yet to make an appearance for Liverpool since joining in 2015, has played in 12 Bundesliga games for Mainz since joining on a season-long loan last August.

He has also had loan spells at German side FSV Frankfurt, Dutch team NEC and Belgium sides Royal Excel Mouscron and Gent.

Augsburg won the game 1-0 thanks to a first-minute goal by former Mainz forward Florian Niederlechner, to leave his old club 15th in the table, just three points above the relegation zone with three games to play.

Callum Hudson-Odoi: Chelsea winger to face no further action on an allegation of rape

Callum Hudson-Odoi made his senior England debut in March 2019

Callum Hudson-Odoi will not face any further action on an allegation of rape, the Chelsea winger has confirmed.

Hudson-Odoi, 19, was arrested on 17 May and released on bail.

The England international wrote on Twitter: “At a time where there are bigger things happening in the world right now, you may also be aware of serious allegations that were made against me.

“I have stayed silent and assisted the police fully throughout their enquiries, as I knew the day would soon come when my name would be cleared.

“Following a full and thorough investigation, the police have now confirmed they will take no further action.”

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: “A man arrested on Sunday, 17 May following an allegation of rape has been released with no further action.

“The incident is therefore no longer being investigated by police.”

Chelsea have declined to comment.

Hudson-Odoi, who has three England caps and in September signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea, was the first Premier League player to test positive for coronavirus.

He made a full recovery and returned to training with his Chelsea team-mates, who resume their season with an away trip to Aston Villa on Sunday, 21 June.

The forward added: “I would like to use this platform to thank everyone who has stood by my side and supported me during this difficult period.

“I have learned that being a footballer and playing for one of the best clubs in the world comes with a great responsibility, and going forward I will try and use my platform as a Chelsea player to be the best role model that I can be.”
