Thiago Motta said “the referee was a little severe” aftera stoppage-time defeat to Juventus, with contentious penalty and red card for Genoa.
The Grifone had equalised with Christian Kouame replying to a Leonardo Bonucci header, but Francesco Cassata was very harshly shown a second yellow card.
After almost an entire half down to 10 men, Genoa were beaten only by a soft penalty.
“I compliment my players, as we put in a good performance against a team that is amongst the most difficult to face, not just in Italy, but in all of Europe,” the coach said in his press conference.
“We proved in tough circumstances that we are a real team. We couldn’t just sit back and defend after going down to 10 men, we had to keep playing, so the lads showed the right attitude.”
Genoa protested and felt that Daniele Rugani should’ve received a second yellow card for Juventus too.
“I’ll leave you to judge. I will only say that the referee was a little severe this evening. We can go home knowing we’ve give our all, we played like Genoa and that’s all we can do.”
