Wembley Stadium has lit up with the colours of the Italy flag, on an evening when the Azzurri were supposed to take on England.
The two nations were scheduled to play tonight, as part of their respective preparations for Euro 2020.
However, the coronavirus pandemic forced the friendly to be called off, with both countries in the midst of lockdown.
To mark the occasion, the arch of Wembley Stadium – due to be hosting the game – has been lit up green, white and red.
“We may not be sharing the pitch tonight, but we stand together and united in this difficult time. #StayHomeSaveLives,” England’s official Twitter account tweeted as a caption.
The tweet is also a translation of a message written outside the stadium – “Siamo separati, ma siamo insieme.”
The European Championship has since been postponed until next summer.
